Nosaka wrote the semi-autobiographical short story, “Grave of the Fireflies,” based on World War II. He wrote about his childhood experience of taking his younger adopted sister to his relative’s house during the Bombing of Kobe in World War II in 1945. The book won the Naoki Prize in 1967.
