After allowing people to register as same-sex couples last year, Taipei City Hall takes another step forward granting family care leave for employees working in the government.
Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je indicates that the government will not administer the policy to all the scooter parking spaces in the city in the next two years. Ko says that if scooters are a cheaper and more convenient mean of transportation, no one would want to take public transportation, so it is necessary to improve the efficiency of public transportation before dealing with the problems of motorcycles.
Ko says, each of his policies makes his supporting rate drop, such as charging off-street parking fee, canceling the rule of using YouBike for free during the first 30 minutes and canceling gift money for the elderly on a traditional holiday that celebrates the spirit of respecting the elderly. Ko says he will not lose the courage to do what he should do even if it will make his supporting rate decline.
The Department of Information and Tourism of the Taipei City Government has already requested websites, like Airbnb, with rooms that don't have hotel license numbers to take the rooms off their websites. Regarding this, Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je believes the illegal apartments have appeared because there are no cheap hotels in Taipei.

The mayor of Kaohsiung, along with Taichung, Tainan and Taipei, signed the letter of protest to the secretary general of ICLEI. As mentioned in the letter, Kaohsiung and the other four cities work hard to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and have made good achievements. According to the results from the Taipei City Department of Labor's inspection on working conditions in the banking industry, among 32 banks, 97% did not comply to regulations regarding payments of working overtime, 69% were beyond legal overtime hours and 56% failed to hold labor-management meetings according to regulations. The fine is estimated to be about NT$ 9 million (approximately US$ 270 thousand).
