Post offices are facing the challenge of transformation and reconstruction as new ways of transportation are threatening traditional postal services. Bloomberg reports, many countries have closed as many of their brick-and-mortar post offices as possible, moving these services into gas stations and convenience stores.

Workers Are Scrambling to Finish Construction of the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum
During his presidential campaign, President Ma Ying-jeou said the branch would be opened at the end of April in 2012. He said the construction would be listed in the “I-Taiwan 12 Projects.” However, he failed to realize this promise. Ma said again this March that the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum in Chiayi would be open for a trial operation on December 28. To realize his words, construction workers are scrambling and working 24 hours a day.

EU Issues Warning and Taiwan to Increase Fine for Illegal Fishing
If Taiwan has not made improvements before the deadline, the European Commission will warn Taiwan with a red card and prohibit the import of Taiwanese fishery products to European countries. It is estimated that it will lead to NT$ 520 million (approximately US$ 15.9 million) worth of damages.

Lung Cancer Cases Increasing in Taiwan and Medical Community Calls On People to Demonstrate against Air Pollution
Li Wu-po, supervisor of Changhua medical Alliance for Public Affairs, says that according to latest statistics issued by the Health Promotion Administration, lung cancer has been the top cause of death for five consecutive years and 9,167 people nationwide died of lung cancer last year. He notes that the population growth rate in Taiwan within these 30 years accounts for 28%, but the growth rate of lung cancer has gone up to 131%.

Taiwanese Flight Attendants Protest Against Labor Exploitation
According to the Aircraft Flight Operation Regulation (AOR), if the cabin crew spends an hour on in-flight rest, the flight duty period can be extended to 20 hours, and if they spend over three hours staying in a hotel after landing, the flight duty period can be automatically extended to 24 hours.

Injustice in Educational Subsidy for Taiwanese Aboriginal Students?
Aboriginal students studying in private schools have heavier economic burdens than those who go to public schools.
