The latest UN report attributes 122 civilian casualties in Afghanistan to Daesh in the first half of 2016, compared to 13 in all of 2015.

Susanne Schmeidl is a lecturer at the University of New South Wales as well as adviser to The Liaison Office (TLO), an Afghan organization she helped co-found in 2003. She is also a visiting fellow at the Asia-Pacific College of Diplomacy at The Australian National University and non-resident research associate at the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies of the University of Otago, New Zealand.
