Frances Kitt is a Research Associate in the International Security and East Asia Programs at the Lowy Institute for International Policy. Frances received her MPhil in 2016 from the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Cambridge, where her research focused on China and the Koreas. She studied Chinese language (Mandarin) and politics as an undergraduate and has also studied Mandarin at Beijing Normal University, Traditional Chinese at National Cheng Kung University, and Korean language, East Asian International Relations and Peacebuilding at Seoul National University. Previous to the Lowy Institute, Frances worked in North Korea on cultural affairs. Her core research interests include North East Asian Security, defense policy and nuclear weapons and, Chinese, North Korean and South Korean foreign policy and domestic politics.
