TAIPEI, Taiwan (15 Mar, 2018)—The News Lens (TNL), an independent Taipei-based Chinese-language news site, has acquired Sports Vision, one of Taiwan’s premier sports news sources, elevating TNL to the top tier of sources on digital sports news in Asia.

TNL intends to integrate Sports Vision's editorial teams and back-end operations, but will keep the brands and websites separate.

In addition, Scott Kronick, current President and CEO, Asia Pacific, Ogilvy, Public Relations and Influence, has joined TNL’s advisory board. He will bring expertise as TNL expands and explores innovative monetization opportunities within Asia.

Joey Chung, TNL’s CEO and co-founder, said Sports Vision is one of the top sports media platforms in Taiwan, boasting over 1,000 freelance writers covering every element of sports, and a highly responsive team interacting with readers on social media. With Sports Vision, its second acquisition, along with its other original lifestyle sub-brand ELD, and INSIDE acquired last December, the TNL group now reaches between 8 million and 9 million unique visitors a month. TNL has an office in Hong Kong and digital editions serving Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, and the international English-language market.

Scott will join existing advisory board members including Sasa Vucinic of North Base Media and previous founding Managing Director of the Media Development Loan Fund; Felix Hong of Google Nest; Joyce Lee, GM of OneAd; Ben Chiang, Co-Founder of Taiwan Sina and others.

“As our second acquisition in the last three months, we are very happy to welcome the Sports Vision team and Scott to The News Lens family,” Chung said. “Our strategy of gradually consolidating the Taiwan digital-media market and introducing different verticals for core audiences will allow us to take maximum advantage of our strong, existing sales, video, IT and international-market teams. We are eager to extend our content offerings to sports. In the coming months, we hope to gradually build out one of the largest digital media enterprises in the region.”

Both the acquisition of Sports Vision and the addition of Scott positions TNL to develop new international partnerships, including with regional players or major international brands.

Mario Yang, TNL's Chief Content Officer and co-founder, said the Sports Vision acquisition confirms the direction set forth with the move to purchase INSIDE, giving TNL new verticals and integrating those content areas with existing TNL teams and products. "We want to capture increased value for our readers by launching new products that serve them better and allow us to gather data and serve content that is most relevant and inspiring, " Yang said.

With the addition of Sports Vision, The News Lens now has a staff of over 75.
