Movies

■ Trolls (魔髮精靈) / Fantasy, Comedy, Musical / G / Trailer

The Trolls are small creatures who live in an almost perpetual state of happiness, singing, dancing and hugging all day long. However, when they are discovered by the Bergens, the Troll Princess Poppy (Anna Kendrick) and the worrywart Branch (Justin Timberlake) must rescue their friends.

“Trolls” is a 3D computer-animated musical film based on the dolls of the same name by Thomas Dam. The film is directed by Mike Mitchell, starring the voices of Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Zooey Deschanel, Russell Brand, James Corden and Gwen Stefani.

■ Free State of Jones (烈火邊境) / War, History, Action, Drama / PG-15 / Trailer

After surviving the 1862 Battle of Corinth, Newton Knight (Matthew McConaughey), a poor farmer from Jones County serving as a battlefield medic in the Confederate Army, deserts and returns to his farm and his wife, Serena (Keri Russell). After his return, Newton organizes the deserters and runaway slaves into a militia and leads an armed rebellion against the Confederacy.

The film is inspired by the true story of Newton Knight and his armed rebellion against the Confederacy in Jones County, Mississippi, during the American Civil War. Written and directed by Gary Ross, the film stars Matthew McConaughey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mahershala Ali and Keri Russell.

■ Hang in There, Kids! (只要我長大) / Drama / G / Trailer

In an aboriginal tribe in Taiwan, three children, Watan (Buya Watan), Lin-shan (Suyan Pito), and Chen-hao (Watan Silan), grow up in the mountains and woods. They are all very optimistic and energetic, yet troubled by their own family issues. Their handicapped teacher (Esther Huang) starts an after-school session to help them with their schoolwork. The teacher has a beautiful voice, but never sings. One day, the three children find a tape of their teacher singing and decide to find out why their teacher stopped singing.

“Hang in There, Kids!”, also named “Lokah Laqi” in Atayal, is a Taiwanese film directed by Laha Mebow (陳潔瑤) , starring Esther Huang (小薰) , Buya Watan (陳宇) , Suyan Pito (吳瀚業) , and Watan Silan (林晨皓). It was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film in the 89th Academy Awards.

Music

Terry Lin ONEtake Concert 2016 World Tour – Taipei (林志炫ONEtake世界巡迴演唱會 – 台北場) / Nov. 5 / Taipei Arena

Terry Lin (林志炫) is a Taiwanese singer known as “King of divine voices,” and his singing skills also earned him the title, “one-take singer.” At the ONEtake Concert, Lin will bring the audience popular and classic Chinese songs he is known for.

R3HAB 2016 Asia Tour – Taipei / Nov. 9 / Myst Taipei

R3HAB is a well-known Dutch DJ and record producer in the Electric Dance Music (EDM) genre. He has remixed tracks for artists such as Lady Gaga, Madonna, Katy Perry, Rihanna and Calvin Harris.

R3HAB will be in Taipei on his latest 2016 Asian tour, and will be performing at Myst Taipei.

Theater

Smiling Angles Improv Theatre — Improv Monopoly (微笑角即興劇團 — 即興大富翁)

Improv theater is a form of theater in which the dialogue, action, story, and characters are created collaboratively by the actors without a written script.

“Improv Monopoly” is the latest performance of Smiling Angles Improv Theater, and the actors will perform through playing the board game, “Monopoly,” with the audience.

Pansori Project ZA-Stranger's Song (板索里ZA劇場《陌生人之歌》)

“Stranger's Song” is based on a chapter from “Strange Pilgrims” by Gabriel García Márquez. It is adapted by Korean Jaram Lee, a renowned “sorikkun,” Korean for singer and storyteller, and talented Pansori writer/composer. Pansori is a Korean genre of musical storytelling, usually performed by a sorikkun and drummer.

The narrative is about a foreign couple living in Geneva and makes a living by doing random work, including driving an ambulance. One day, the ex-president of their home country comes to Geneva to cure his illness, and his appearance leads to changes and conflicts between the couple.

Exhibitions

ART easy 2016 (台灣輕鬆藝術博覽會) / Nov. 4–6 / Songshan Cultural and Creative Park

“ART easy” is an art fair aiming to support local artists through offering free exhibition booths. The art fair is seeing its second year with works of over 140 artists, and the ages of the exhibitors range from 17 to 90. The exhibited artworks varies from paintings, Chinese ink paintings and photography.
